Weight FAQ
Mounjaro® is a brand name medication containing tirzepatide, the same active ingredient found in Zepbound®. It is FDA-approved for the management of type 2 diabetes and is sometimes prescribed off-label for chronic weight management if deemed appropriate by your healthcare provider. Mounjaro® works differently than semaglutide medications because it activates two hormone receptors (GLP-1 and GIP), which enhances its effects on weight loss and blood sugar control. Like other weight medications, Mounjaro® is most effective when combined with diet and exercise.
Mounjaro® is a dual-agonist medication that activates both GLP-1 and GIP receptors. By mimicking these hormones, it reduces hunger, increases feelings of fullness, slows digestion, and improves insulin sensitivity. Mounjaro® also lowers glucagon levels, helping to regulate blood sugar and support weight loss.

If you have any additional questions, our support team may be able to help.
When starting Mounjaro®?, most patients will begin with a lower dose and gradually increase it over the first few months until a steady dose is reached. This approach helps your body adjust to the medication and any potential side effects. Your healthcare provider will work with you to determine the best dosing schedule for you, based on your individual response and tolerance. Results vary, but clinical trials of tirzepatide have shown an average weight loss of 20% total body weight when combined with diet and exercise.
Common side effects of Mounjaro® include nausea, diarrhea, decreased appetite, vomiting, constipation, indigestion, and stomach pain. It's important to be aware of more serious side effects, such as signs of thyroid tumors, pancreatitis, severe allergic reactions, kidney issues, and changes in vision. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience any of these symptoms.
Mounjaro® is a once weekly medication that comes in a prefilled injection pen that contains multiple doses. The pen is designed to help ease administration and minimize discomfort. If prescribed, you (or someone in your household) will select the prescribed dose and admister the injection under the skin of your abdomen, upper thigh or upper arm. While some patients may experience a mild pinprick sensation or slight skin irritation at the injection site, these effects are typically minimal. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions on administration.
Mounjaro®, like Ozempic® is FDA-approved for managing type 2 diabetes, while Wegovy® is approved specifically for weight loss. The key difference lies in the active ingredient. Mounjaro® contains tirzepatide, which activates two hormone receptors—GLP-1 and GIP—to regulate metabolism and enhance feelings of fullness. In contrast, Ozempic® and Wegovy® contain semaglutide, which only activates the GLP-1 receptor. This dual action makes tirzepatide unique and may contribute to greater weight loss and improved metabolic benefits.
At Evernow, we're committed to helping you access the weight loss treatments that suit your needs. Our team works closely with you to navigate the path to coverage, ensuring you get the support you need from your healthcare provider and our Care Team. While name-brand GLP-1 medications like Ozempic® and Wegovy® may be in short supply, our providers will help you explore all available options to continue your weight loss journey confidently. We strive to make high-quality treatments accessible, even during times of medication shortages, so you can achieve your health goals.
