Tretinoin face cream FAQ
Evernow’s tretinoin face cream is a compounded formulation that combines tretinoin, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid. This unique formulation helps improve skin tone and texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and treat dark spots, acne, and sun damage while supporting hydration and calming irritation.
Tretinoin, a derivative of Vitamin A, works by accelerating the turnover of skin cells. This process removes old, damaged cells and replaces them with newer, healthier ones. It also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, improving skin elasticity and firmness. This leads to smoother skin, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, and an overall improved skin tone and texture. The addition of niacinamide and hyaluronic acid helps enhance hydration and calm irritation, making it a balanced formula for radiant, healthy skin.
You may notice improvements in your skin within 2–3 weeks of consistent nightly use, though it can take up to 6 weeks or longer to see full results. Individual results may vary depending on your skin type and concerns. If you don’t see significant changes after 12 weeks, consult your provider to discuss adjustments to your regimen.
Here are the five steps to follow when using tretinoin:
1. Prepare your skin: Remove makeup and gently wash your face. Pat dry completely before application.
2. Apply the cream: Use 1-2 pumps of tretinoin and apply it evenly as six small dots—on each side of the forehead, each mid-cheek, the nose, and the chin. Gently rub it in. For acne, you can also target specific spots.
3. Avoid sensitive areas: Keep tretinoin away from the eyes and mouth, as these areas have thinner, more sensitive skin.
4. Moisturize: Follow with a bland, fragrance-free, non-comedogenic moisturizer to hydrate and protect your skin.
5. Timing: Use tretinoin once daily at bedtime.
Compounded medications are specialized formulations created by licensed pharmacies in the United States. They involve combining (compounding) specific ingredients to create medications that are tailored in strength, dosage form, or ingredients, often when commercially available options aren't available or suitable. This tretinoin face cream, like most other compounded products, is not FDA approved. This means that the FDA has not evaluated its safety or effectiveness.
Yes, tretinoin can be used alongside other skincare products, but it’s important to avoid potential interactions. For instance:
- Do not use tretinoin at the same time as benzoyl peroxide, as it can cancel out tretinoin’s effectiveness. Apply benzoyl peroxide in the morning and tretinoin at night if both are part of your routine.
- Pair tretinoin with a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer to reduce irritation.
- Sunscreen is essential during the day, as tretinoin makes your skin more sensitive to the sun. Evernow’s facial estriol cream complements tretinoin and can be used in the morning to boost your skincare results.
- Do NOT use if pregnant or breastfeeding
Tretinoin is safe for most skin types but requires careful use, particularly for sensitive or dry skin. To minimize irritation:
- Start by using it every other night or twice a week and gradually increase frequency as your skin adapts.
- Use a gentle moisturizer and avoid harsh cleansers or exfoliants.
- Those with darker skin tones can benefit from tretinoin for hyperpigmentation but should take care not to overuse it. Consult your Evernow provider to tailor a regimen that’s right for your skin type and concerns.
